Customize and make your own ice dye color wheel and build color confidence in creating different gradients using three primary color dyes, two standardized Procion MX dyes and fiber reactive dyes that are designed to split heavily. We will focus on color and dyeing process as opposed to creating a standard color wheel. During Day 1 we will create six gradients on water color paper using: lemon yellow, fuchsia, and turquoise to denote major positions on color wheel. next we will explore mixing additional colors using two standardized dyes and/or substitutions from your stash. The examples can be warm-to-cool dye colors, similar or closely related dye colors (analogous), and special blends using three to four dye colors to customize your color wheel. Try your hand in exploring three to four standardized colors to make a dye that splits!

Day 2 uses two different dye techniques in plastic cups to create small fabric and plant-based yarn samples to add to your color wheel tool. Sixteen different samples will be created with final color wheel assembly to occur after washing. These processes are designed to be repeated to add to your color wheel, help you better understand how colors blend during ice dyeing as well as create a tool to organize your dye stash.

Required Materials: Soda Ash, 3 primary dye colors, lemon yellow, fuchsia red, turquoise, two-three fiber reactive standardized dyes, 3-4 dyes that split heavily, water bottles, 2 eyedroppers, brushes, small wells, solo cups + cotton fabric + micro skeins, spice shakers, measuring spoons, bag filled with ice, watercolor paper, gloves, mask. A complete listing of materials will be emailed 24-48 hours after registration.
