Low water Immersion and Ice Dye Zoom Workshop - 1 Day August 22
Friday, August 22 10 am-4 pm EST
This live zoom workshop will focus on building color confidence to create a warm-cool gradient on pre-wound warps and mini-skeins (tencel, rayon, or cotton) using a low-water immersion and ice dye method in 5-6 quart jar containers and 5-6 plastic pint containers using three dye colors (Procion MX Fiber Reactive Dyes). Prepare two sample gradients using a pre-mixed stock solution (no soda ash) of three dyes on paper prior to class. Be prepared for feedback and further testing the morning of class. All other dyes will be mixed with soda ash after selecting final gradient palette and tested prior to dyeing the day of the workshop following afternoon demonstration by Natalie. Participant dyeing to begin the last hour of workshop.
A 4-S gradient deflected doubleweave draft using the gradient yarns will be provided to participants. Participants will need to dye an additional warp (or use commercially hand-dyed yarns) following the workshop for this draft.
If interested in learning how to design with these warps and set-up your loom, please register for the separately listed September 5 and 6 Design at the Loom Workshop.
Requirements: Procion MX Fiber Reactive Dyes suitable for Ice Dyeing, Pre-Wound Warps and Skeins Plant-based Fibers (tencel, rayon, cotton 5/2 or 8/2 weight), cotton fabric for buffers
