A zoom workshop for August 7-8, 2026 (10 am-4:30 pm EDT) exploring surface design with Woven Shibori and Deflected Doubleweave. Using a pre-warped 8-shaft loom weave samples of Woven Shibori on Day 1 using a variety of treadling wefts: plant-based fibers and silks/stainless steel silk. Day 2 begins with ice-dyeing your Woven Shibori samples and changing your tie-up to weave two different deflected doubleweave stairstep treadling samples to explore texture. For those who want to learn how I design in the reed, this zoom workshop comes with 6 step video clips to see one process of my stairstep design in the reed.
Materials: pre-warped 8 shaft loom using a painted/dyed warp or commercial yard of 4.5 yards in length of plant-based yarn (5/2 or 8/2 weight), a variety a wefts of similar weight, stainless steel silk or silk for cross-dyeing, 1-3 fiber reactive dyes, ice, tub, 2 shuttles. A specific material list will arrive 24-48 hours after class purchase.
